Cottonseed hydraulic pressing runs on barrel rhythm, not rated tonnage

This page turns prepared cottonseed into a press schedule. It covers what the barrel should receive, how much fits in one load, how long a hot cycle takes, and how to count presses for a daily feed target.

Feed targets

What the hydraulic barrel should receive

The hydraulic press does not correct preparation errors. It receives crushed, cooked cottonseed kernel material and converts pressure into oil flow. If the feed arrives cold, uneven, or loaded with hull, the same press shows longer cycles, wetter cake, and darker oil. These feed targets should be confirmed in the press room before anyone debates press count.

  • Feed form: crushed and cooked kernel material with an even particle size, loaded hot from the cooker, not reheated leftovers.
  • Load size: the standard barrel is Ø390×800 mm and takes up to 100 kg of crushed feed — weigh loads instead of estimating by height.
  • Packing: fill evenly in layers so oil channels form through the whole load rather than only along the barrel wall.
  • Check: cake residual oil is the feedback signal; the general working target is about 5% or lower.

Cycle math

From 100 kg barrels to a daily schedule

Hot pure pressing takes about 30-40 minutes per barrel. With loading and cake release included, a realistic rhythm is roughly two barrels in 1.5 hours per press. The schedule should be built on that number, not on the nameplate force.

  • Two 100 kg barrels in about 1.5 hours means roughly 130 kg of feed per press-hour on paper, before heating, cleaning, and lot changes.
  • Multiply by realistic run hours per shift, then divide the daily feed target by that figure to get a first press count.
  • Keep margin: seasonal seed, press-cloth changes, and cake handling always take hours away from the theoretical rhythm.

Pressure, power, and the hot-press model ladder

60 MPa hydraulic system, 2.2 kW motor

Working pressure comes from the hydraulic system, so the electrical load per press stays small. That matters on gin-side sites where power is shared with ginning equipment.

Hot models 300/325

The 300 and 325 hot models deliver 300-325 tons of pressing force and are the usual frames for hot cottonseed work fed straight from the cooker.

Cold ladder 355-500, for contrast

Cold models from 355 to 500 cover 370-630 tons for cold-press crops. Cottonseed normally stays on the hot route, but the ladder shows where the frames sit.

Loading routine

Loading habits that protect the 1.5-hour rhythm

  • Stage the next barrel's feed while the current one is under pressure, so loading time does not stretch the cycle.
  • Keep cake trays, barrel tools, and the scale inside the press cell instead of across the aisle.
  • Log fill weight, cycle time, and cake residual oil per lot; drift in those three numbers points to preparation problems before it points to the press.

Project boundary

What to confirm before scoping Cottonseed Press Feed Targets and Barrel Loading Plan

Cottonseed Press Feed Targets and Barrel Loading Plan should not be quoted from an equipment name alone. Check feed lots, target oil, post-press handling, and packing rhythm in one scope before deciding which Cottonseed Oil Press modules stay. Cottonseed is almost always 300/325 hot press + cook + mandatory refining (gossypol).

When feed condition, moisture, impurities, batch weight, and product position are unclear, press tonnage and filter area become guesswork. Factory systems share 60 MPa and 2.2 kW motors; hot pure press is 30–40 min/barrel and cold pure press is ~2 h/barrel — cycle time matters more than brochure tonnage.

  • Confirm whether feed is whole seed, kernels, pretreated material, or an existing semi-finished stream.
  • Confirm whether the target is crude oil, filtered oil, bottled oil, drum ingredient oil, or a refining handoff.
  • Hot cycle reference: pure press 30-40 min/barrel, ~1.5 h for 2 barrels with loading; cold pure press ~2 h/barrel, ~4.5 h for 2 barrels.
  • Confirm batch rhythm, labor, changeover, retained samples, power (often 380V/50Hz/3ph), and site install conditions.

Hot 300/325: 300–325 ton, 60 MPa system, standard barrel Ø390×800 mm / max 100 kg, pure press 30–40 min/barrel, ~1.5 h for 2 barrels with loading, 2.2 kW motor. Cold 355/400/426/480/500: 370–630 ton, integrated frame, same 100 kg standard barrel, pure press ~2 h/barrel, ~4.5 h for 2 barrels with loading; optional Ø300 high-pressure barrel max 60 kg. Residual oil target ~≤5% (peanut hot often 6–8% measured).

  • Standard barrel Ø390×800 mm, max ~100 kg crushed feed; optional Ø300 high-pressure barrel max ~60 kg.
  • Cylinder material 27SiMn; cold frames are integrated molded steel; hot frames are typically H-type channel steel.
  • Cottonseed is almost always 300/325 hot press + cook + mandatory refining (gossypol).

Equipment check

Process needs to land in equipment interfaces

Once the route is clear, write the interfaces: how preparation feeds the press, how oil leaves the press, how filtration connects to tanks, and how packing receives finished oil.

Front-end input

Record feed form, daily volume, moisture, and sorting needs so pretreatment is not left to operators.

Crude sampling and refining interface

Gossypol 0.5–2.5% makes alkali + bleach + deodorize mandatory. Leave piping and sample points for refining in the first layout.

Delivery data

Prepare space, power (often 380V/50Hz/3ph), labor, target package, local rules, and acceptance method before quotation.

Questions on this page

How much cottonseed fits in one hydraulic press barrel?

The standard barrel is Ø390×800 mm and takes up to 100 kg of crushed, cooked feed per load. Weighing each load keeps cycles comparable.

How long does one hot cottonseed pressing cycle take?

Pure pressing takes about 30-40 minutes per barrel; with loading and cake release, plan roughly 1.5 hours for two barrels per press.

What residual oil should cottonseed cake show?

A general working target is about 5% or lower. If residual oil rises, check feed temperature, particle size, and fill weight before blaming press force.
