50-100 t/d cottonseed mill: full pretreatment + press + refining

Industrial-scale cottonseed mill (50-100 t/d) integrates seed storage (silo 1500-5000 t for off-season feed), continuous delinting + dehulling, multi-press hot-pressing (5-10× 325 ton hydraulic, or screw press hybrid for higher continuous throughput), crude-oil buffer tanks (50-150 m³), and on-site NBD refining train 30-80 t/d (degum + neutralize + bleach + deodorize at 240-260°C). Yield 14-18% whole seed = 7-18 t crude oil/day. Output: refined edible cottonseed oil (free gossypol <0.045%) + decorticated meal (protein 41-44%) + hulls (feed/fuel) + linters (cellulose).

What expands at industrial scale

  • Seed storage: 1500-5000 t silo (steel or concrete) for off-season feed. Aeration, moisture monitoring, FIFO rotation. Fire safety: linter dust class.
  • Pretreatment: continuous delinter (acid 90-95% lint removal) + sheller + aspirator (hull 35-45%) + cleaner. Capacity 5-10 t/h.
  • Press section: 5-10× 325 ton hydraulic press OR mechanical screw press hybrid (continuous, yield 14-17%, residual 12-15% then solvent extraction).
  • Crude-oil tanks: 50-150 m³ jacketed buffer + 24 h settling + plate-frame filter feeding refining at 30-80 t/d.
  • Refining train: degum (phosphoric 0.05-0.1%) → neutralize (caustic) → bleach (clay 1-2%) → deodorize (240-260°C × 30-60 min vacuum) → free gossypol <0.045% per FAO/WHO.
  • By-products: hulls 35-45% × 50-100 t/d = 18-45 t/d (feed/fuel/board), linters 5-15% (cellulose), cake/meal (protein 41-44%, ruminant feed).

Seed-to-cake separation

Incoming seed silos → delint area → dehull aspirator (hulls go to separate silo) → cook + grind area → press hall (hot cake discharge to cooler/bagger). No crossing flows.

Press staging (5-10 units)

Stagger press cycles 5-10 min apart so loading, oil collection, cake discharge happen continuously. Total floor 200-400 m² press hall, 5 m height clearance.

Refining tie-in

Crude-oil pumps + sample point + buffer tank between press and refining. Refining train footprint 100-200 m², stainless 304/316 contact, dedicated venting for deodorizer 240-260°C vapors.
